About my companion cats
By Gillian Knebel
Cats have been part of my life since I was little. I remember vividly when I was about ten and our pregnant cat's waters broke in my bed and she had her kittens there. My great grandfather was a horse doctor before there were vets, in Ireland. So the story goes, both he and his horse had pneumonia, he cared for his horse so that it recovered but he died. I think I inherit some of that sort of feeling and it comes out in how I care for my cats. Like anything in life the more you know about something the more you realize your ignorance. That's certainly how I feel now about looking after cats. Where I live in the countryside in Ireland, there are many stray cats who wander in and out of my life. Cats seem to choose to be with me, I suppose I could ignore their choice but I don't. I would very much like to love humans as much as I love cats, they teach me to be more loving, so hopefully, given time and cat teaching I will do so. I'm in the process of organizing a workshop on animal communication after an experience with a sick cat. Communicating wiht animals is a psychic or intuitive sense that anyone can develop given desire and practice. I was prompted to organize this after I had contacted an animal communicator who talked to my cat for me and was subsequently able to let me know what the cat wanted and how to help him get better. The cat gave very detailed instructions which I found surprising. The sad thing about this was that I had left it much too late and though the cat wanted to fight to stay alive the disease had progressed too far and the cat died two days afterwards. Wouldn't it be great if more people knew how to communicate with animals. I think it would make the world a better place for all of us. I for one don't want to be ignorant a moment longer. |
