Meditation - life saver for nervous people
By Gillian Knebel
I'm speaking from personal experience here to anyone reading this who, like me, is the sensitive nervous type. Having practiced meditation for over 20 years I can say withoug a shadow of a doubt that meditation has helped bring peace and happiness into my life. I do a little every day, sometimes as little as a few minutes and when I have the time devote hours on end to it. That is pure luxury. There are lots of different ways to meditate and I believe that there is no 'right' way. A little learning and experimenting with the help of a teacher (maybe) and you will find what works for you and what feels comfortable for you. The great thing about it is that its calming, relaxing and connects you up with the 'All'. That feeling of a little 'me' struggling against a hostile world gradually disappears to be replaced with a liberating sense of connection to all things. As with nearly everything in life, mastery takes practice and perseverance is required especially when you might feel that nothing much is happening. I read somewhere and it resonated deeply with me, that meditation is like water dripping onto a rock and slowly little by little over time, eroding it. Most probably, not everyone wants or needs to meditate, but I think that if you are the nervy type it can be life saving. Then sensitivity becomes an enormous blessing and not a curse. |
